Reviewer resources and product facts

A concise reference for independent reviewers, journalists, community moderators, and anyone checking what Awaira does and does not do.

The short version

Awaira is a privacy-first wellness and awareness tool. It notices visible hand movement toward the face or head and can offer a user-selected cue. It does not identify a hair pull, skin pick, nail bite, or any other specific behavior. It does not diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure a health condition.

What the camera does

With permission, Awaira analyses live camera frames on the device to notice a hand approaching the face or head. The cue can be a sound, screen border, blur, vibration, or another platform-specific prompt.

What it cannot know

A movement can be a scratch, adjusting glasses, eating, resting a chin, touching hair, or something else. A detected approach is an awareness prompt, not a behavior count or a verdict.

Privacy boundary

Camera frames are processed live and discarded. Awaira does not receive camera video, frames, activity history, reflections, or progress data from the native apps.

How to describe Awaira accurately

  • “A private hand-to-face awareness app” is accurate.
  • “Uses on-device camera analysis to offer a cue when a hand approaches the face or head” is accurate.
  • “Built for awareness around hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting, and related BFRBs” is accurate when paired with the detection limitation.
  • Do not describe Awaira as detecting completed pulls, picks, or bites, or as a treatment, diagnostic tool, or medical device.

Founder perspective and evidence

Awaira was built by someone with lived experience of trichotillomania. That perspective informs the product's focus on privacy, automatic moments, and nonjudgmental cues. It is not clinical evidence and it is not a substitute for professional care. Our educational content follows the editorial and medical-review policy and identifies when an article is not reviewed by a named clinician.
